Sushmita Sen to play as split personality in 'No Problem'

Sushmita Sen to play as split personality in 'No Problem': A psycho wife who suffers from split personality and itches to kill her husband. That’s the role Sushmita Sen plays in the upcoming comedy No Problem.
In the movie directed by Anees Bazmee, Sush is married to Anil Kapoor, who plays a bumbling police officer, never able to catch criminals.

In an agency interview, Anil Kapoor says he found Sush’s role somewhat bizarre.

“I thought that this entire split personality thing about Sushmita's character was a little bizarre. There aren't many comedies where you hear about a wife trying to kill her husband. In 'No Problem', her mental disorder makes her all violent and physical,” says Kapoor.

Speaking about Sush’s character, Anil added that he convinced himself that the character would eventually work to the film’s advantage.

“She gets into such a state because before marriage, she thought of me as a hero, only to realise later that I am actually a zero. She bashes me up every now and then. But initially, I had to convince myself that such scenes would work fine for the movie,” Kapoor added.

The actor said Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta were in the race for the role but director Anees Bazmee convinced him to cast Sushmita.

“There were number of names that were thought of for a woman to play a lead opposite me. We thought of Lara (Dutta) as well as Bipasha (Basu) but Anees was convinced that Sushmita would suit the role best,” Kapoor said.

The film is a multistarrer featuring Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal, Sunil Shetty, Kangana Ranaut and Neetu Chandra. It is slated to release on December 10.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek at KHJJS premiere

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek at KHJJS premiere: Actor Abhishek Bachchan, along with his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and director Ashutosh Gowarikar, attended a special screening of his recently-released film 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' (KHJJS) here on Sunday evening.
Prior to the screening, the cast interacted with winners of ITC Fiama Di Wills Facebook contest organized to promote the film.

Speaking to the media, Gowarikar said, "I am very much pleased to see the response here. My film is completely based on Manini Chatterjee's book 'Do or Die'.

"As to my imagination, Abhishek resembled the persona of Master Da (Surjyo Sen). We don't have any footage or pictures of Master Da. So I imagined his body language and matched it with Abhishek. And the outcome is in front of you all. In short, the core of this film is the young generation who took revolution to the zenith".

Junior Bachchan sounded very excited on his new on-screen avatar of a freedom fighter.

"Surjyo Sen is a natural hero. But such a great name has almost been forgotten. Sixty-four people showed resistance to the British rule, of which 55 were merely boys," said Abhishek.

"Master Da is an iconic figure and each and every one should know his fight to independence. So to me, Ashutosh Sir has completely done justice by making a film on such a legend. Now the whole of India, rather the whole world will come in terms to what he did for India's independence," he added.

The film is based on Chittagong Uprising of 1930.

Box Office Report: Currently New Releases get down

Box Office Report: Currently New Releases get down: The movie buff isn’t in the mood for an outing it seems. For all the three releases of this Friday, Rakht Charitra - 2, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey and Phas Gaye Re Obama have opened to very poor response at box office.

Many expectations were attached to Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelein Hum… starring Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. But despite the film’s patriotic theme, it got 10 to 20 percent response on its opening day.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakht Charitra 2 is faring no better. The film introducing south star Suriya to Bollywood is doing dull business even at single screen theatres where it was expected to do well.
Director Subhash Kapoor’s black comedy Phas Gaye Re Obama is also doing very poor despite getting rave reviews from critics.
Verdict: the box office also seems to have mood swings.

December Filmi Dhamaka from Bollywood Superstars

‘Rakta Charitra 2’ releases today

‘Rakta Charitra 2’ releases today: Rakht Charitra - 2 the much anticipated sequel to Rakta Charitra releases today. South film star Suriya makes his Bollywood in this controversial film directed by Ram Gopal Varma.

Rakta Charitra starring Vivek Oberoi had performed well in Andhra Pradesh but could only manage a below average response in other parts of the country. The movie is inspired by the story of the slain political leader Paritala Ravi of Andhra Pradesh.

The music of Rakta Charitra 2 is average and the film is less violent that the first part. However, Tamil hero Suriya is believed to have performed exceptionally well in the movie.

Overall the film is expected to outperform Rakta Charitra.

Movie Review - Phas Gaye Re Obama lead with Neha Dhupia

Movie Review - Phas Gaye Re Obama lead with Neha Dhupia: From Osama to Obama, the world renowned figures are slowly creeping into the seldom fecund imagination of Indian scriptwriters. Unlike Tere Bin Laden which spoofed the world’s most wanted man unabashedly, Phas Gaye Re Obama doesn’t show that much cheek and only references the Nobel winning American president through posters, graffiti and, of course, his famous slogan ‘Yes We Can’.

From America’s swish corporate world to apna India’s squalid underworld, none was spared from the economic meltdown that made bankrupts out of many a millionaire overnight. One such unfortunate soul is the US-based NRI Om (Rajat Kapoor) who, having lost everything to recession, comes to rural India to sell off his ancestral property with the hope of taking back some money to the US to pay off the loan for his home.

To his utter misfortune, Om is kidnapped by a gang headed by Bhaisaab (Sanjay Mishra). Now the gang is facing severe financial crunch. No bullets for their guns, no petrol for jeep, and to top it all, no rich folks left to kidnap. Mandhi (recession) has hit everyone. Om seems to them a big catch. But when it turns out that he too is stony-broke like them, it’s Om who shows the way further.

Om is passed on to bigger gangs. There’s the female Gabbar, Munni (Neha Dhupia), the spitfire dacoit whose oversexed female underlings have Bollywood names like Deepika, Priyanka and Preity. And then there’s Dhananjay (Amole Gupte) who is the Animal Welfare Minister but runs a covert kidnapping racket so well organized that it even gives out proper receipts for ransom it extorts.

Apart from its delightfully offbeat story, Phas Gaye Re Obama boasts of goofball characters that leave you chuckling throughout. There’s the don’s America-loving sidekick Anni (Manu Rishi) who hears Obama speeches with mouth agape; or there’s this English school teacher whose English is as funny as flawed.

Kudos to writer director Subhash Kapoor for making a thoroughly entertaining satire with an interesting twist in the end. Performances are topnotch by almost everyone. But Sanjay Mishra, Rajat Kapoor, Amol Gupte and Manu Rishi deserve a pat on the back.

A potent black comedy like Phas Gaye Re Obama is a rarity in Bollywood. Do watch it even if you are broke and have to borrow or steal for the ticket money.

Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor makes an epic love story

Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor makes an epic love story: The director of films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Black and Guzaarish is now planning to revive his once-shelved film which will star Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has recently admitted that he makes films, not money, so reviving an old film requires courage. If the recent buzz is to be believed than the director has started thinking again about his magnum opus Bajirao Mastani with Salman and Kareena. The movie was planned in the year 2003 and Sanjay was eager to have Aishwarya Rai in the lead role of Mastani opposite Salman. But because of the Salman and Aishwarya break-up, the director abandoned the thought of making the film with the couple.

Later he went on to make other films but he couldn’t actually part with Bajirao Mastani. Sanjay even thought of Kareena at that time for the role but nothing could materialize. Afterwards, Bajirao Mastani was tagged as a jinxed film.

The film narrates the love story of Peshwa Bajirao and his second wife Mastani, who was a Muslim. Their relationship was also the reason of much rift in the orthodox Marathi society of that time and led to a major crisis within the royal Peshwa family. Mastani was a brave lady; she was a skilled horse-rider and used to go to the battlefield with her valiant husband.

With a skilled director like Sanjay, we can expect Bajirao Mastani to be another grandiose, epic film.

Farah Khan makes fun of SRK in 'Tees Maar Khan'

Farah Khan makes fun of SRK in 'Tees Maar Khan': Shahrukh Khan and director Farah Khan have claimed that they are still good friends, but if we are to go by the latest news, their friendship is passe. It is reported that Farah has made fun of the actor in her latest film Tees Maar Khan.

Yes, Akshaye Khanna's role in Tees Maar Khan is said to be a replica of Shahrukh's real life. In the film, Akshaye goes to London often for terrible backache treatment. He also talks about showing off his six-packs and going topless in film.

As if that's not enough, he makes an international filmmaker wait for six hours and turned his offer down in the end. The film went on to win Oscars, leaving him with remorse. It may be recalled that Shahrukh turned down Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire, which won stole the show at the Oscars a few years ago.

Tees Maar Khan starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Akshaye Khanna is scheduled for release on Christmas day, December 24.

Ranbir Kapoor's next bulky bulk 'Barfee'

Ranbir Kapoor's next bulky bulk 'Barfee': Katrina Kaif’s alleged boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor may be a lean guy as of now. But better get a good look at him coz he is not going to stay the same. Ranbir shall soon get bulkier since he has decided to put on some extra pounds for his next film ‘Barfee’.

Earlier titled as ‘Silence’,  ‘Barfee’ shall feature Ranbir in a dumb and deaf character. However, it’s no emotional melodrama but a comic caper and Ranbir shall be honing his comic skills for this film.

Director Anurag Basu, being a die hard admirer of Charlie Chaplin, wanted Ranbir to take cues from his films and imitate his style. However, Ranbir came with an idea of his own. He suggested that he better sketch out his character in a Mr. Bean-like way coz the new generation would easily relate to him.

Anurag was mightily impressed with the idea and now Ranbir has been asked to put on some weight so that he looks more like his character. Hence, currently, Ranbir is sinking his teeth into fatty food and trying to gain some flab; something that comes so easily to Kapoor Khandan.

So, how will our Saawariya look in his plumper avatar? Any guesses?

No one to pull the release date of Aamir Khan's 'Dhobi Ghat'?

No one to pull the release date of Aamir Khan's 'Dhobi Ghat'?: Aamir Khan has the power and he doesn't even make an effort to flaunt it. No wonder, with his decision to pull the release date of his next, Dhobi Ghat, from February to January (21st to be precise), he is getting a clear road ahead with no traffic whatsoever, what with Abhishek Bachchan starrer Game moving to a later date as well.
Says a veteran industry insider, "Game was earlier all set to release on 21st January. The date was announced months ago and with the film's principal shoot being through, there were plans lined up to cut the theatrical promo as well."

One was surprised though with the stance taken by Game to stick on to its original release plans. After all two other biggies had silently moved away from the same date with Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf and Madhur Bhandarkar's Dil To Baccha Hai Ji planning to arrive later on. However, as things stand today, the makers of Game have announced a new date,18th March, and in the process have steered clear of Aamir Khan's film (despite it being a low budget offbeat experimental cinema).

Ritesh Sidhwani, producer of Game along with Farhan Akhtar confirms, "Yes, we are not coming on 21st January anymore. It is 18th March for us." One also suspects if this was a goodwill gesture, given the fact that the producers are anyways working with Aamir Khan for their next outing (to be directed by Reema Kagti). After all it won't be fair to clash with the same actor at the box office with whom they have already begun collaboration.

Aamir Khan "No, that was not the case", Ritesh kills the speculation here, "We are not yet ready with our film and needed more time for post production. Since it looked difficult to get Game ready in February as well, we are now aiming for March."

This makes good business as well as commercial sense after all. There has been a heavy dose of films right through the last quarter of 2010. January doesn't look any better with half a dozen major films anyways planned for release. Moving ahead to March means that Game has a field wide open for it to enjoy all the perks that come along with a solo release as well as zilch competition.

Point to be noted though is that World Cup cricket would be in its full fervour during March. A 'game' like this in the middle of some intense game of cricket should indeed bring in all the thrills, both on the big as well as the small screen.

Shahrukh Khan to make his career with Oscar-winner Danny Boyle!

Shahrukh Khan to make his career with Oscar-winner Danny Boyle!: The Oscar-winner Danny Boyle has had plans to make another film on the city of Mumbai ever since he completed Slumdog Millionaire.

So, Danny set his eyes on the critically acclaimed novel by Suketu Mehta, based on Mumbai, Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found and wants Shahrukh Khan in the film.

This time the Khan can’t say no to Danny. Earlier he refused to do Slumdog and that role went to Anil Kapoor. Now, Anil is shooting for Mission Impossible 4 and has also acted in a US TV series. As per reports, Danny will start shooting the film by 2011 and has met Shahrukh for the project. However, the novel has the city of Mumbai as its main character.

As sound engineer Resul Pookutty, who won Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, tells a tabloid, ‘Maximum City’ will be very different from Slumdog.

We agree to him as the book explores the interconnected worlds of Mumbai’s slum-dwellers, bar dancers, the dingy underworld and even the Hindu radicals.

Box Office Report: 'Break Ke Baad' going not well at cash windows

Box Office Report: 'Break Ke Baad' going not well at cash windows: Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan starrer ‘Break Ke Baad’ has failed to rake in big money at the box office after opening to a low occupancy rate.

Though it performed better at high end multiplexes like PVR Ambience Gurgaon with an occupancy rate of 40%, its occupancy was abysmally low at 15-20% in other multiplexes. Despite some heavy promotions and hype, the film literally disappointed.

Expectations were also high riding on the new pairing of chic Imran Khan and the sexy Deepika Padukone. Plus, a lot was being expected from Aamir Khan’s bhanja after he delivered a semi-hit with ‘I Hate Luv Storys’.

However, the opening day didn’t go as well. And after negative reviews from critics, it’s unlikely that it’s performance shall improve much over the week.

On the other hand, ‘Allah ke Banday’ failed to set up any momentum. Dark theme, lack of publicity and dearth of big stars spelled disaster for this film that could barely afford an occupancy of 10-15 percent.

Sunny Deol and Tabu starrer much delayed project ‘Khuda Kasam’ failed to leave any mark and vanished behind the veils of oblivion. With an average occupancy of 10-25 percent, it hardly bothered the cashiers.

Guzaarish’ that released last week, surprisingly, continued its miserable run while ‘Golmaal 3’ has gone past a mark of Rs 100 crore. Staggering result for this comic caper!

'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' Madhur Bhandarkar's latest Film - First Look

'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' Madhur Bhandarkar's latest Film: Get inside the theatre, have a fun time, and come out refreshed".
These words aren't exactly something you'd hear from a film-maker who, in the past has attracted the audiences with his thought-provoking, topical, women-centric drama's that non-voyeuristically peep into punitive reality. But that's Madhur Bhandarkar for you. The man who rose to an unexpected prominence with his experimental yet firmly commercial films like Corporate, Traffic Signal, Page 3 and Fashion, is ready to catch you off-guard and make you chuckle with his first romantic comedy, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji which he unveiled in Mumbai over the weekend.

The film -- which deals with three men who cope with modern women and contemporary liaisons resulting in a fun, roller-coaster ride of emotions -- stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya, Shraddha Das and Shazahn Padamsee.

"This is the first time I am making a slice of life romantic comedy and I hope as people have loved my earlier films, they will definitely accept this movie too. The way DTBHJ is shaping up I am sure it will be a treat to watch," he says of his latest enterprise.

So what triggered such a departure from his previous works?

"Nothing in particular, I just wanted to make a feel-good funny film that will have people laughing as they come out of the theatres,'' he says.

"Even though I've created fiction, it is within the parameters of reality, as is the case with my films. You'll like it," he candidly pours his heart out adding, ''I've been fortunate to achieve critical as well as public acclaim and I hope I maintain that trend.''

Priyanka Chopra to work with Shahid Kapoor?

Priyanka Chopra to work with Shahid Kapoor?: Let’s not talk about their off-screen chemistry; it is shrouded in mystery. But their on-screen charisma surely has many takers. Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor, the Kaminey pair, rocks!

The B-town buzz has it that Kunal Kohli has approached Priyanka Chopra with a film that has Shahid playing the main lead. Though Kunal was upset with PC for not giving dates for one of his past projects with Saif Ali Khan, he again went up to this talented actress seeking her nod for the new project. If Kunal has his way, he will bring back the sizzling jodi once again on big screen after ‘Kaminey’. But can the director-producer convince PC to do a film with Shahid, as both the actors try hard to not to be seen in public together.

While talking to a daily about KK’s film, Shahid said, “I have enjoyed Kunal’s works in the past whether it’s Hum Tum or Fanaa and I’m looking forward to this love story. Whoever he decides to be cast opposite me, I’m okay with it.” That’s like a professional.

The film also demands two other actresses. Sonakshi Sinha, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone are under consideration for the roles.

When Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan met?

When Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan met?: Hrithik Roshan the dancing sensation of Bollywood has a distinct attraction for his senior Shahrukh Khan. It seems as if the two were really meant to be brothers as was depicted in the KJO flick ‘Khabhi Khusi Kabhi Gham’ a few years ago.
Recently when Shahrukh Khan wanted to see the Sanjay Leela Bhansali flick ‘Guzaarish’ at his place Mannat in Mumbai, he had got arrangements to see it with his family and friends. Hrithik Roshan who was quite unwell had stayed back home to relax even as his wife Sussanne went for the special screening at SRK’s place. Sussanne and Gauri, Hrithik’s and Shahrukh’s wives respectively are the best of friends and they always spend a lot of time whenever time permits.

But just after the film had started, there was a phone call from the big brother Shahrukh Khan to Hrithik Roshan, saying that he was very impressed with the latter’s work in the movie. SRK immediately asked Hrithik to be at his place so that they could have a one on one chat about the great role that Hrithik had portrayed as a paraplegic.

Now, as is well known, Hrithik just cannot say no to SRK. So out he popped from bed and rushed to Mannat forgetting all about his fever and stuff.

Well, reportedly the two discussed everything about portraying characters with chronic diseases on screen and since SRK had also portrayed the role of a mentally affected patient in KJO’S flick My Name Is Khan, he perfectly understood Hrithik’s character of Ethan in Guzaarish who was a paraplegic.

Well, what do we call it? Mutual understanding of one bro for another?

Kareena Kapoor, Imran Khan will together in Karan Johar's next!

Kareena Kapoor, Imran Khan in Karan Johar's next!: He’s cute and charming, and Kareena Kapoor finds him handsome too. The young Khan here is no other than the endearing Imran Khan.
If Imran can’t stop raving about Bebo, who also happens to be his co-star in Karan Johar’s next Short Term Shaadi, Kareena too is generous with her compliments for this Khan, though she is smitten with only one Khan (Saif Ali Khan).

The actress is quoted as saying, “He (Imran) looks good and he’s handsome. I think he is the next generation super-star.”

Kareena and Imran haven’t started shooting for their film, but going by their compliments, we can imagine how they are going to light up the big screen.

Allah Ke Banday Movie Review - Naseeruddin Shah to take a lead

Allah Ke Banday Movie Review - Naseeruddin Shah to take a lead: In his first film as a director and actor, Faruk Kabir attempts to take an unflinching look at the sordid realities of life in a squalid, crime-infested Mumbai slum. Allah Ke Banday is a story about children without childhood as we know it.
The central characters are two preteens Vijay and Yakub who push drugs, pull off smash-and-grab robberies, and fire country-made guns with aplomb. As irony would have it they land up in a juvenile home for a crime they did not commit. Inside the reformatory they are physically abused and sodomized by senior inmates in complete connivance with the limping, evil warden (Naseeruddin Shah) who vows to make every day a living hell for the two ‘born killers’.

So what was to be a place of reformation turns out to be the breeding ground of the two juveniles to grow up as hardened criminals. Finally, when the doors to freedom are flung open after 11 long and tortuous years, Vijay (Sharman Joshi) and Yakub (Faruk Kabir) have their aims set - to rule the crime world. Vengeance is also on their mind, but takes a back seat as the film veers off into a needless romantic track and shootouts aplenty.

The two friends rear an army of children to run every sort of unlawful activity until an idealist teacher (Atul Kulkarni) butts in to thwart their progress.

The story is bleak, dark and somewhat disturbing because those who live by the gun find no light at the end of the tunnel. May be a black hole that sucks everything up.

Allah Ke Banday is a promising debut by Faruk Kabir but is not void of amateurish rawness in direction and acting. The writer-director can’t seem to decide if he wants to make a realistic arthouse film or a Bollywood masala caper. Shot quite well at locations that lend realism to the film, Allah Ke Banday loses credibility with its repeated stabs at exaggerated style and affected gravitas reminiscent of the Ram Gopal Varma films. The excessive use of background score - deafening at times - does no good either.

What stands out is the restrained performance by Sharman Joshi who’s pretty much under the skin of his level-headed Vijay as against the hot-tempered Yakub enacted by Faruk. Naseer has a very small role but he works his magic in those fleeting moments. Atul Agnihotri isn’t in form this time, may be because his character is just too idealistic. Anjana Sukhani does well in a miniscule role.

To sum it up, Allah Ke Banday could have been a riveting film and a telling statement about ‘children at war’. Alas, it’s nothing more than a flawed attempt at a tale about loss, revenge and redemption.

Shahrukh Khan will work in 'The Departed' Hindi Remake

Shahrukh Khan will work in 'The Departed' Hindi Remake: We have seen Hindi remakes of American films in the past and some have been great while others have been disasters. The new remake that is being talked about definitely has great potential of becoming a hit.   Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan is set to do a film with  Producer Vishal Bhardwaj next year.   If they decide to remake Martin Scorsese's  "The Departed"  SRK will be playing the role Hollywood actor Leonardo Dicaprio plays in the film.    Khan and Bhardwaj have been discussing working on this project for a while now.
Back in February Shahrukh Khan met up with Hollywood actor Leonardo Dicaprio and Director of Hollywood film, "The Departed" at the Berlin Film festival.   Their meeting was  obviously more than they let on at that time.  Reports back then suggested that it was a casual meeting between industry members.   Shahrukh Khan also spoke about how he met  Director Martin Scorses  at the Cannes film festival in 2002 and how Scorses wants to watch Devdas because they premiered it at Cannes that year.

There was no buzz about the project at that time.   But now word is out and it all makes sense.    If this project goes into production it will definitely not happen before 2011.  Both Bhardwaj and Shahrukh are tied up with their own projects.    Shahrukh Khan is very busy with his films Ra. One and Don 2  so he doesn't have time to discuss the project with Bhardwaj.  Vishal is also tied up with his current projects including "Saat Khoon Maaf."   Although he too is eager to discuss working on the remake he doesn't have time to think of it just yet.   "The Departed" is a very popular Hollywood film that was appreciated by the Indian audience.   The public anticipates this project!
